Ron Howard is an American actor, producer, and film-maker. He is known for his roles on the TV series, The Andy Griffith Show and Happy Days.
Ron Howard Williams was born on March 1, 1954, in Duncan, Oklahoma to Rance Howard and Jean Speegle Howard. He is of Dutch, Irish, English, Scottish and German ancestry.
Ron’s family moved to Hollywood in 1958, but they eventually moved to Burbank after three years.
He studied with Desilu Studios and then John Burroughs High School. He then went on to University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts but dropped out without obtaining a degree.
In 1975, Ron married Cheryl Alley. Together, they have four children, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jocelyn Carlyle, and Paige Howard and Reed Cross.
Ron’s first appearance in the film industry was in, The Journey. He has also appeared in, The DuPont Show with June Allyson, The Twilight Zone, Dennis the Menace, The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, The Eleventh Hour, The Smith Family, M*A*S*H, The Waltons, I Spy and The Cheyenne Show.
From 1960, he played the character of Opie Taylor in The Andy Griffith Show, for eight seasons.
He played the role of Richie Cunningham on the show, Happy Days.
Howard’s movie roles include that of Winthrop Paroo in The Music Man. He also played the lead role in The Courtship of Eddie’s Father.
In 1976, he starred in The Shootist with John Wayne.
Howard’s directorial debut was the low budget film, Grand Theft Auto in 1977. This was made possible by Roger Corman who offered to let Ron Direct a film if the latter agreed to star in Eat My Dust! with Christopher Norris. He proceeded to build is a career as a director of TV movies.
He caught his big break in 1982, with Night Shift.
He has a vast repertoire of movies that he has directed, including, Apollo 13, Parenthood, Splash, A Beautiful Mind, The Da Vinci Code, Willow, Angels & Demons, Inferno, In the Heart of the Sea and Rush.
In 2017, he was asked to take on the directorial duties of a Star Wars franchise as well.
Along with Brian Grazer, Ron is the co-chairman of Imagine Entertainment which has produced films like Inside Deep Throat, Friday Night Lights, 8 Mile, Felicity and Arrested Development which was also narrated by Howard.
In 2013, Ron was bestowed with the honor of being inducted into the Television Hall of Fame.
