James Orsen Bakker was born in Muskegon, Michigan, on January 2, 1940, to his parents Raleigh Bakker and Furnia Lynette “Furn” Irwin.

In 1961, Jim Bakker got married to Tamara Faye LaValley. The couple has two children named Tammy Sue “Sissy” Bakker Chapman and Jamie Charles “Jay” Bakker, born in 1970 and 1975 respectively. They divorced in 1992. In 1998, he got married to Lori Beth Graham. They have adopted five children.

He was lead to criminal charges after he sold lifetime memberships from 1984 to 1987. He sold exclusive partnerships and became an embezzler. He was sentenced to 45 years in federal prison with a fine of $500,000 in August 1989. In 1992, his sentence was reduced to 8 years. In 1994, Bakker was released from the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Jim Bakker began working in the Christian Broadcasting Network of Pat Robertson from 1966. He has greatly contributed to the growth of the network. He has also assisted in making The 700 Club as one of the most successful and longest-running televangelism programs. Following that, he became the host of ‘The Jim and Tammy Show’.

In the 1980s, he built a theme park in Fort Mill, South Carolina called ‘heritage USA’. It is used to distribute networks 24 hours a day for the entire country.
