Rodriguez had an interest in baseball from a very young age and had his own share of favorite teams and players. He went to Christopher Columbus High School and, by the end of his freshman year, was transferred to Westminster Christian School. Rodriguez became the USA Baseball Junior Player of the year, and by 1993 he became the first-ever high school player to go and try out for the United States national baseball team. He went on to be considered as the prime prospect for the country.
A letter of intent was signed by Rodriguez indicating his willingness to play for the University of Miami; the university recruited him for playing as the quarterback in the football team. Apart from winning several awards for his performances, he has also been a part of several controversies.
He has often been criticized for his unruly behavior with the media and for his use of performance-enhancing drugs, which are not legal.
Rodriguez was selected by The Mariners in the 1993 MLB draft; he got a chance to debut in major leagues in the next year, at a young age of 18. He became the starting shortstop, and left the team after the 2000 season and went on to join Rangers. The ten deal was signed for $252 million and was known to be the richest contract in the history of baseball.
Before the 2004 season, he was traded again, this time to the Yankees. Here he became the third baseman, during his time with the team he was named as the AL MVP for 2005 as well as 2007.
He ended his professional career with his final game last year in August; he could not continue playing anymore because of the knee and hip injuries.
