Sócrates Brasileiro Sampaio de Souza Vieira de Oliveira, or just Sócrates, was a Brazilian attacking midfielder, known as “Doctor Socrates”. Why was he given that nickname? Because he was an actual doctor. Yep, Sócrates was a doctor of medicine, something that’s extremely rare for footballers. What’s even more remarkable, is that he studied and earned his degree while he was playing professionally. What a bloke, what an achievement.
